Finally beter WiFi with mod

Postby MaVe_64 » Fri Jan 04, 2013 4:41 pm

I also had a bad signal on my mk808 2nd version with pins on upper antenna. This is what worked for me.
I soldered both the sticker antenna's loose. Then I cut a piece of wire 12 cm and soldered one end to the grnd and one end to the ant connection of the upper antenna (with the pins). Time to test. And YEP it worked! 3 to 4 bars signal strength, good reception.
After that I did the same with the bottom antenna, and tested. 10 dB less strength and 13 Mbps instead of 22 Mbps I got last time (acc. to speedtest.net).
So 2 was not beter than 1. I lost the second (bottom) mod and drilled 2 holes in the upper case for the wire to pass through. Took pictures of it for you guys.
So for me no original antenna's and only 1 wire mod on the upper antenna.
Hope this helps!

Looks exactly like my antenna Mod (http://www.armtvtech.com/armtvtechforum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=992). I also thought that it was not necessary to clip off the pogo pins, but was too late...

I also tried a biquad (two antennas), which made it worse. And I tried a reflector, gave a bit of gain, but wasn't worth the trouble of fixing it correctly.

However, at the end I found that if I bend the loop like a folded dipole (see my post) and align stick and router with matching polarity, I get the best signal strength and quality.

So, try out if a folded dipole gives youan even better signal...

Btw. At the end, it could really be possible to apply this mod without soldering at all. The pogo pins can be clipped of a bit and since they are hollow inside, one could stick the wire into the pogo sticks...

It is a good idea of yours that you have finally taken decision for your WiFi with mod. I have also used such technique but along with that I am also using other accessories like cable tray, monitor arm, stand to protect the computer and save extra space in my office. It also helps to increase the productivity of the work. It is very easy to mount in wall or on table.
